On November 25, 2020, the next round of political consultations between the Ministries of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine and the Republic of Cyprus took place.

The consultations held in the format of a video conference were co-chaired by Mr. Vasyl Bodnar, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine and Mr. Kornelios S. Korneliou, Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Cyprus. The delegations were comprised of the Heads of the relevant departments of the Ministries of Foreign Affairs of both countries as well as the Heads of diplomatic missions of Ukraine and the Republic of Cyprus.

According to the agenda, a wide range of issues of political, trade and investment cooperation, as well as prospects for further development of Ukrainian-Cypriot relations and ways of cooperation within international organizations were discussed.

Particular attention was paid to the development of the situation at the temporarily occupied territories of Ukraine. In its turn, the Cypriot side informed the Ukrainian side on the efforts in order to resolve the “Cyprus question”.

The economic direction of cooperation remains as a priority for both parties. In this context, it was agreed to continue preparations for the Second Session of the Intergovernmental Ukrainian-Cypriot Commission.

The parties also praised the joint efforts to revive the political dialogue between the two countries. The sides also agreed to continue the practice of holding political consultations in order to discuss a number of issues of common interest, as well as to sign a relevant document on holding political consultations between the Ministries of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine and the Republic of Cyprus.
