In his address, Ambassador Nizhynskyi thanked EU partners for their strong support and outlined the harsh realities Ukraine’s energy sector faces in the fifth year of Russia’s full-scale war:
- Daily attacks on civilian energy, heating, and water infrastructure
- Severe generation deficit during last winter (peak demand 18.2 GW vs 10.1 GW domestic generation)
- Continued systematic strikes on Kyiv, Kharkiv, Dnipro, Odesa and frontline regions.
Despite these challenges, Ukraine is actively preparing for the winter of 2026/2027 by building a new, resilient, and distributed energy system - including cogeneration, smart grids, energy storage, and strategic equipment reserves.
The Ambassador also highlighted important progress in EU integration, new legislation on electricity market coupling, gas supply security, renewable energy, and biomethane development. He proposed deeper cooperation, including the potential use of Ukrainian underground gas storage for regional EU strategic reserves.
“Energy resilience is becoming an investment category” - Ambassador Nizhynskyi emphasized.
Thank you to our European partners for your solidarity and concrete support! Together we are strengthening Europe’s energy security.
