The Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary Ambassador of Ukraine to the Republic of Cyprus, Dr. Sergii Nizhynskyi, together with the chaplain of the mission of the Orthodox Church of Ukraine on Cyprus, Archpriest Petro Zuev, met with His Beatitude Archbishop of Nova Justiniana and All Cyprus Georgios.
During the conversation, the parties discussed a range of key issues aimed at revitalizing Ukrainian-Cypriot church relations. In particular, the Ukrainian side officially invited Archbishop George to visit Ukraine—which could provide impetus for the development of inter-church dialogue and mutual support.
In addition, the recent visit of the President of the Republic of Cyprus, Nikos Christodoulides, to Ukraine was discussed. The Archbishop expressed a desire to meet with the President of Ukraine, Volodymyr Zelenskyy, in Cyprus.
Special attention was paid to the practical aspects of spiritual care for Ukrainians in Cyprus, in particular the issue of opening a Spiritual Center of the Orthodox Church of Ukraine in Nicosia, which would become an important hub for our community on the island.
The Archbishop granted a blessing for joint cultural events.
The dialogue regarding the blessing for Archpriest Petro Zuev to conduct services in the capital of Cyprus was also renewed.
This meeting is evidence of the deep respect and fraternal support from the Church of Cyprus, which has long recognized the autocephaly of the OCU and stands shoulder to shoulder with the Ukrainian people in the struggle for truth and independence.
We thank His Beatitude Archbishop George for his hospitality and openness! May the Lord bless our joint efforts for the good of Orthodoxy and our countries.
