Ukrainian-Cypriot commission on economic, scientific, technical and industrial cooperation should become an efficient instrument of collaboration of the two countries at intergovernmental level. It was stated by the President in the course of the meeting with President of the House of Representatives Yiannakis Omirou.
The Head of State expressed belief that constituent session of the Commission would be held in the nearest time. “The instrument of achieving our agreements and elaborating our relations in all directions is intergovernmental commission that is being created and will begin functioning I the nearest time,” he said.
The President drew attention to the acceleration of bilateral relations of Ukraine and Cyprus. He particularly noted the importance of visits at the highest level. “It is new beginning of our relations,” Viktor Yanukovych noted. He expressed hope that the dynamics of Ukrainian-Cypriot relations would continue to further grow.
Besides, the Head of State highly evaluated the decision of the Cypriot Government to introduce “electronic” visas for Ukrainians. “In fact, we have opened the door to our citizens and our enterprises to establish business relations, develop tourism, etc.,” the President emphasized.
In his turn, Yiannakis Omirou noted that Ukrainian-Cypriot relations were at “very high level”. According to him, such relations include diplomatic, political and economic ties “that are constantly developing”. “Your visit will provide greater dynamics and facilitate strengthening of Ukrainian-Cypriot ties,” the President of the House of Representatives said. He noted that bilateral documents signed in the course of the visit of Ukrainian President were a good basis for it.
YiannakisOmirou also drew attention to the close relations between Ukrainian and Cypriot parliaments. In that context, he praised the Memorandum on Mutual Understanding and Cooperation signed by the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine and the House of Representatives of Cyprus. The President of the House of Representatives also said about his intention to visit Ukraine in the nearest future.
