The President expressed gratitude to Cyprus for readiness to provide support to Ukraine on its way to European integration. “We are grateful to Cyprus, which currently chairs the EU Council, and to President Demetris Christofias for readiness to provide active support on the way of our European integration, particularly in order to accelerate the signing of the Association Agreement and the liberalization of visa regime,” the Head of State noted after Ukrainian-Cypriot negotiations in Nicosia. Viktor Yanukovych stressed that in the course of the meeting with Cypriot President significant attention was drawn to the issues of European integration of Ukraine.
According to the President, another important topic was the prospects of Ukrainian-Cypriot cooperation in the world arena, particularly in the context of Ukrainian OSCE presidency in 2013, one of the priorities of which is to facilitate settlement of protracted conflicts. “Regarding this, Ukraine stands for mutually acceptable and fair settlement of “Cypriot issue” on the basis of international law and respective resolutions of the UN Security Council,” the Head of State noted.
In his turn, the President of Cyprus emphasized that his country supports European integration aspirations of Ukraine. “We express our support to Ukraine in that context,” Demetris Christofias said. He expressed confidence that Ukrainian party would make every effort regarding that issue.
