The Minister of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine Pavlo Klimkin participated in the 127th annual meeting of the Committee of Ministers of the Council of Europe, which took place in Nicosia, Cyprus on May 18-19, 2017.
During the meeting Pavlo Klimkin, particularly, drew attention of the foreign ministers of the Council of Europe member states to the unacceptability of existence of grey zones on the territory of European continent, where people de facto are outside the protection of the European Convention on Human Rights. He noted that Donbas and Crimea are the most troubled grey zones in Europe, stressing that the current situation clearly shows how one particular state can deliberately and consciously destroy the human rights protection system on the continent.
Pavlo Klimkin welcomed the importance of adoption of decision regarding situation in Autonomous Republic of Crimea and Sevastopol city on May 3, 2917 by the Committee of Ministers of the Council of Europe and stressed, that such decision should serve as signpost towards the restoration of all violated human rights in Crimea, as well as being another step towards de-occupation of peninsula.
