On November 26, 2016, at the Maronite Catholic Church in Nicosia a memorial service for the victims of Holodomor in Ukraine of 1921-1922, 1932-33, 1946-1947 was held in connection with the Day of Remembrance of the Victims of famines.
The event gathered Ukrainians of Nicosia, who understand and remember this tragedy and its victims. All who were present honored the memory of those killed in that terrible tragedy of Ukrainian people and prayed for the souls of the victims of repressions of the Soviet regime. The memorial service was held by Ukrainian priest Father Joachim Kovalchuk who was present those days in Cyprus.
Father Joachim and Ambassador of Ukraine Borys Humeniuk stressed the importance of remembrance of this horrible page of the history of Ukraine, honoring the memory of all the innocent people who died during communist terror and those patriots who nowadays give their lives for their people, their country in the fight against aggressive expansionist policy of Russia against the people of Ukraine.
