On November 9, 2016 warm and extremely interesting meet-the-artist event with participation of famous documentary film director Mr. Valeriy Balayan was held at the Embassy of Ukraine to the Republic of Cyprus.
During the event Mr. Balayan made a presentation of his documentaries that reflect the situation in the occupied Crimea with interviews of local people. Among them were short documentaries "Hatidzhy", "Enjoy" and "Romance of Nadir".
Director Balayan witnessed the seizure of Crimea and further developments in the occupied peninsula and therefore described the mood and behavior of the local population, the Russian authorities’ planned strategy of occupation of the peninsula as well as current problems faced by local people in terms of occupation regime. In his documentaries he managed to create a true picture of the actual situation on the peninsula in accessible to the viewer manner.
Ambassador of Ukraine Mr. Borys Humeniuk expressed the gratitude to the film director Mr. Balayan for the excellent presentation and stressed the importance of his activities in the context of delivering true information to the public and opposition to propaganda of occupational authorities. The Ambassador also briefed the biography of the director and screenwriter, who is a member of the National Union of Cinematographers of Ukraine and member of the Board of the Crimean branch of the National Union of Cinematographers of Ukraine. His work heritage includes over 40 scenarios and more than 60 non-fiction films and movies.
After the presentation a discussion with the audience was held.
