At 11 am on November 11, 1918, throughout the western front of Europe finally stopped firing. Since 1919, on the second Sunday of November, known as Remembrance Sunday, a two-minute silence has been observed at 11am at war memorials, cenotaphs, religious services and shopping centers throughout the UK.
The UN military contingent and the representatives of the diplomatic corps accredited in Cyprus have laid wreaths at a military cemetery.
