On November 23, 2017, an event dedicated to the 85th anniversary of the Holodomor in Ukraine of 1932-33 was held at the premises of the Cine Studio of the University of Nicosia.
During the event an action drama film "Bitter Harvest" was screened and photo archive exhibition dedicated to the Famine Genocide against Ukraine was presented.
The event gathered many representatives of the Cypriot and Ukrainian community, diplomats and academics.
In his speech at the beginning of the event, H.E. Ambassador of Ukraine Borys Humeniuk emphasized the necessity of spreading the information about this horrible crime against the Ukrainian people, highlighted the main causes and preconditions of Stalin's policy towards the Ukrainian nation, and called on everyone to honor the memory of innocent people executed by famine by the Soviet Communist regime.
Commemorative events in Cyprus continued on November 25 and 26 in Limassol and Nicosia with the evening requiem and lighting the candles in memory of the millions of innocent people killed by Stalin’s regime. Father Taras Ostafiiv held memorial services in the Maronite churches in Limasol and Nicosia for the victims of Holodomor in Ukraine.
