Reception in the Republic of Cyprus to celebrate 26th Anniversary of Independence of Ukraine

On August 24, 2017 a diplomatic reception on the occasion of 26th Anniversary of Independence of Ukraine was held in Nicosia at the "Hilton Park" hotel with the attendance of governmental, political, business, academic circles and diplomatic corps as well as mass-media and Cypriot community and Ukrainians in Cyprus.
The reception was inaugurated with national anthems of Ukraine and Cyprus following with the speeches of His Excellency Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Cyprus Mr. Ioannis Kasoulides and H.E. Ambassador of Ukraine Mr. Borys Humeniuk.
In his speech Ambassador of Ukraine stressed on the history of the struggle of Ukrainian people for self-determination and independence, the celebration during 2017 of the 100th anniversary of the Ukrainian revolution, the formation of an independent Ukrainian State and the achievements of Ukraine during the years of independence. He also drew attention to the continuing aggression of Russia against our state and Ukraine's commitment to a peaceful settlement of the situation in Donbas caused by Russian hostilities. In the context of bilateral relations between Ukraine and Cyprus, the Ambassador emphasized marking of the 25th Anniversary of the establishment of bilateral relations between Ukraine and the Republic of Cyprus and positively characterized the development of Ukrainian-Cypriot cooperation and friendly relations between the two peoples. Ambassador also confirmed the support of Ukraine for an efficient and quick solution of the Cyprus issue for the benefit of the Cypriot people.
Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Cyprus Mr. Ioannis Kasoulides stressed that official Nicosia continues to support the territorial integrity of Ukraine and supports the prompt de-escalation and stabilization of the situation in the East of Ukraine, as well as diplomatic solution to the crisis by peaceful means on the basis of principles of international law and Minsk agreements. He also noted that the Republic of Cyprus supports European integration of Ukraine and re-rapprochement of Ukraine to the EU. Mr. Minister emphasized the importance of political dialogue between Ukraine and the Republic of Cyprus and noted the support by Ukraine of Cyprus’s territorial integrity.
After the official part of the event the videos about Ukraine and Cyprus dedicated to the 25th Anniversary of Ukraine-Cyprus relations were played during the cocktail reception.
