On September 8, 2016 a diplomatic reception on the occasion of 25th Anniversary of Independence of Ukraine was held in Nicosia at the "Hilton Park" hotel with the attendance of governmental, political, business, academic circles and diplomatic corps as well as mass-media and Cypriot community and Ukrainians in Cyprus.
During the event, the attendees had an opportunity to enjoy the masterpieces of classical music of Ukrainian composers of XVIII - XX centuries, which were performed by talented Ukrainian duo - Lidiya Futorska, violin, and Serhiy Khorovets, button accordion. Their program entitled "Ukrainian aquarelles" includes works by famous Ukrainian composers - M.Berezovsky, D.Bortnyansky, M.Lysenko, A.Gnatyshyn, I.Levytskyi, M.Skorulskyi, Y.Meytus, M.Kolessa and M.Skoryk.
The photo exhibition named “Children in War” made by Baltic-Black Sea Security Confederation was presented with the aim to draw the attention of the public to the problems of children living in conflict-affected areas of Donetsk and Lugansk regions of Ukraine. Mr. Evgen Rokytskyi, the President of the Confederation and Mrs. Olena Prokopenko, the Vise-President of the International Charity Fund "Volunteer help" made the presentation of this exhibition.
The Minister of Transport, Communications and Works of the Republic of Cyprus Mr. Marios Demetriades and the Ambassador of Ukraine addressed to the attendees of the event.
During his address to the guests, Ambassador of Ukraine to the Republic of Cyprus Mr. Borys Humeniuk stressed, in particular, on the achievements of Ukraine on its path of independence, the efforts of the state leadership in implementation of reforms in key spheres of the country’s life, and drew attention to the ongoing Russian aggression against our country and commitment of Ukraine to peaceful settlement of the situation in the Donbass, including full implementation of the Minsk agreements. Ukrainian Ambassador also positively characterized Ukrainian-Cyprus cooperation and friendly relations between the two nations.
Minister of Transport, Communications and Works of the Republic of Cyprus Mr. Marios Demetriades stressed that official Nicosia continues to support the territorial integrity of Ukraine and supports the prompt de-escalation and stabilization of the situation in the East of Ukraine, as well as diplomatic solution to the crisis by peaceful means on the basis of principles of international law and Minsk agreements. He also noted that the Republic of Cyprus supports European integration of Ukraine and re-rapprochement of Ukraine to the EU. Mr. Minister emphasized the importance of political dialogue between Ukraine and the Republic of Cyprus and noted the support by Ukraine of Cyprus’s territorial integrity.
