On August 19, 2015, Ukrainians living in Nicosia held celebrative event dedicated to the 150th anniversary of the birthday of Metropolitan of the Ukrainian Greek Catholic Church Andrey Sheptytskyi and celebrated the Transfiguration of Christ.
On this occasion the hieromonk from Lviv St. Archangel Michael Monastery of Ukrainian Greek-Catholic Church Vasyliy Zakharus came to Cyprus. During the meeting at the Embassy the Ambassador of Ukraine Borys Humeniuk congratulated those present at the event with these Ukrainian holidays and drew attention to the prominent religious, public and political figure of the Ukrainian State Metropolitan Andrey Sheptytskyi. Father Vasyliy has told about interesting facts from the biography of Metropolitan as well as his activities and achievements, particularly in the context of the preservation of Ukrainian nationality, identity and traditions.
In the framework of the event a thematic exhibition of photos and archival materials about Metropolitan Andriy Sheptytskyi was presented. Participants also had also the opportunity to hear the unique voice recording of Metropolitan, which has been preserved to our days.
Ukrainian Holy Liturgy dedicated to the Transfiguration was served by Father Vasyliy at the Apostle Mark Cathedral in Nicosia as well as blessing of fruits was held. The memory of Metropolitan Andrey Sheptytskyi was honored during the event.
