International exhibition in the framework of the project entitled “From Aegean to the Black Sea. Medieval city-ports in the maritime routes of the East” opened in Cyprus

Ukraine at the International photo exhibition was presented with five seaport cities of Belgorod-Dnistrovkyi, Odessa, Kerch, Sevastopol and Feodosiya.

With the support of the Embassy of Ukraine to the Republic of Cyprus in cooperation with the European Centre for Byzantine and Post-Byzantine Monuments (Greece), the Society of Cypriot Studies (SCS), the Cyprus Commission of Byzantine Studies, the Embassies of Greece, Bulgaria, Romania and Georgia have organized an International exhibition in Cyprus entitled “Sailing from and to Byzantium. Medieval ports from Euxinos Pontos to Eastern Mediterranean”, which will be opened during 2015 in major cities of Cyprus - Nicosia, Larnaca, Limassol, Paphos and Ayia Napa.

By presenting unique photos of medieval fortifications, bastions and other cultural artifacts of twelfth century, which survived until nowadays in the 60 medieval seaports of the six aforementioned countries, the exhibition displayed a rich medieval past of these countries, their history and culture, as well as historical maritime trade connection between the Black Sea and Mediterranean Sea.

Ukraine, as part of an International photo exhibition was presented with five seaport cities of Belgorod-Dnistrovkyi, Odessa, Kerch, Sevastopol and Feodosiya.

The opening of an International exhibition took place on February 11, 2015, at the cultural center “Famagusta Gate” in Nicosia with the participation the Mayor of Nicosia Mr. Costas Yiorkadjis, Mayors of occupied cities of Kyrenia and Morphou Mr. Mr. Glaukos Kariolou  and Mr. Charalambos Pittas, Director of the European Centre for Byzantine and Post-Byzantine Monuments  Dr Anastasia  Turta , Ambassadors of Greece, Romania, Bulgaria, Georgia and Ukraine to Cyprus as well as representatives of political, diplomatic and business circles of the Republic of Cyprus.

The above-mentioned International exhibition is an additional prove that, despite the temporary occupation of the Crimean peninsula by Russia, the Crimean cities Sevastopol, Kerch and Feodosiya are considering in Cyprus as integral part of the sovereign territory of Ukraine.
