The Day of Freedom and Dignity of Ukraine has gained a profound new meaning also for diplomats, politicians, and government officials of the Republic of Cyprus.

On 24 November, the Embassy of Ukraine in the Republic of Cyprus organized an official diplomatic reception in Nicosia on the occasion of Ukraine's Day of Dignity and Freedom. The event was attended by up to 300 people and aimed to emphasize to representatives of Cypriot and foreign institutions and organizations the importance of continued support for Ukraine. The reception was attended by ministers, ambassadors, members of parliament, media representatives, public figures, and members of the Ukrainian community.

H.E. Dr. Sergii Nizhynskyi, Ambassador of Ukraine to the Republic of Cyprus, together with the Embassy team, personally welcomed each guest.

In his address, the Ambassador gave a powerful insight into the daily reality faced by Ukrainians during the war. By activating the sound of an air-raid siren, he drew the audience’s attention to the constant danger and spoke of the extraordinary resilience and strength of the Ukrainian people, both on the front line and on the home front.

The Government of the Republic of Cyprus was represented at the event by the Minister of Interior, Mr. Constantinos Ioannou, who remained until the end of the reception and reaffirmed Cyprus’s strong commitment to supporting Ukraine.

Stories of Ukrainian courage and resilience shown through video presentations, the deeply moving performance by the “Cultural Forces of Ukraine”, which was met with standing ovations, the ethereal beauty of the bandura and the voice of Inna Ishchenko, the powerful exhibition Icons on Ammunition Crates, and a photo exhibition dedicated to the Maidan events— all left a lasting impact on the guests and conveyed a clear understanding of what Ukrainians are defending.

Cultural diplomacy shows what we are fighting for in Ukraine and why exchanges between the military and the National Guard are no less valuable assistance to Cyprus.
