The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine strongly condemns the holding and does not recognize the results of so-called parliamentary elections in the occupied by the Russian Federation territory of the Tskhinvali region of Georgia, which took place on June 9, 2019.
Ukraine considers this step as another attempt by Russia and its occupation regime to legitimize the situation in this occupied territory of Georgia, including as a result of "ethnic cleansing" and numerous other systematic gross violations of human rights.
Ukraine reaffirms its consistent support for Georgia's sovereignty and territorial integrity, as well as welcomes the peaceful steps taken by the Government of Georgia, including those on the basis of its initiative "A Step towards a Better Future" aimed at the reconciliation between Georgians and Ossetians.
