Yesterday, June 15, a key working session of the European Aviation Strategy Summit was held in Nicosia on the theme: "Ensuring connectivity, sustainability, competitiveness and resilience of air transport for all regions". The event was attended by Marko Skral, First Secretary of the Embassy of Ukraine in the Republic of Cyprus.
Against the backdrop of geopolitical tensions, airspace closures and rising costs, industry leaders came together to develop solutions for the sector's resilience to external challenges.
The event featured four main thematic panels, which discussed:
- simplifying aviation rules and reducing bureaucratic burdens without compromising on safety;
- opportunities to ensure fair connectivity for remote and island regions, taking into account support for local economies and tourism;
- mobilizing investments for the ecological transition, scaling up sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) and implementing clean technologies;
- countering cyber threats, addressing GNSS jamming, civil and military aviation coordination and secure drone integration.
In parallel with the technical discussions, the summit hosted an innovation exhibition showcasing the latest AI technologies for space management, VR simulators for pilot training and advanced developments in the field of unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs).
The results of today's discussions and the conclusions of the Cyprus Presidency will be an important contribution to the upcoming review of the EU Aviation Strategy, expected in autumn 2026.
