On August 23, 2020, on the initiative of the Ukrainian community in the Republic of Cyprus the celebration of the important national holidays of Ukraine – the Day of the Ukrainian’s State Flag and the Independence Day of Ukraine, was held. Representatives of Cypriot community, Ukrainians in Cyprus and the staff of the Embassy of Ukraine to the Republic of Cyprus attended the event.
The event was inaugurated with national anthem of Ukraine following with the speeches of Mrs. Natalia Sirenko, Chargé d'Affaires of Ukraine to the Republic of Cyprus, and Mrs. Tetyana Ioannou, Head of the Ukrainian Society in Cyprus “Community of Ukrainian-Cypriot Friendship”.


During her speech, Mrs. Sirenko greeted all Ukrainians with these important national holidays of Ukraine and drew attention to the ongoing Russian aggression against Ukraine. In this context, the Chargé d'Affaires of Ukraine to the Republic of Cyprus stressed on the necessity to consolidate efforts in restoring the territorial integrity, sovereignty of Ukraine and strengthening the Ukrainian state.
In addition, the Embassy of Ukraine to the Republic of Cyprus expressed its gratitude to Mrs. Ioannou, Head of the Community of Ukrainian-Cypriot Friendship for her active work aimed at preserving and promoting the Ukrainian language, culture and traditions of the Ukrainian people, promoting a positive image of Ukraine in the Republic of Cyprus, deepening and expanding friendly relations between our two peoples, as well as significant personal contribution to the union and consolidation of the Ukrainian community in Cyprus.
During the event, a video presentation of the history of the National Flag of Ukraine, as well as a cultural program with the singing performances of talented Ukrainians living in Cyprus were presented.
