Minister of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine Andrii Sybiha: "I met with my colleague, Cypriot Foreign Minister Constantinos Kombos, and thanked Cyprus for its principled leadership and for keeping Ukraine high on the agenda during its Presidency of the Council of the EU.
I expressed gratitude for Cyprus’ support in advancing the EU’s €90 billion loan for Ukraine and the 20th package of sanctions against Russia. Strengthening sanctions pressure on the aggressor and reinforcing Ukraine’s defense and economic resilience remain essential.
We also discussed the importance of helping Ukraine prepare its energy system for the next winter season.
We highlighted the importance of maintaining momentum on Ukraine’s EU accession path. Ukraine is determined to open all six negotiation clusters during Cyprus’ Presidency of the Council of the EU. This would be a historic and strategic achievement for a stronger and more secure Europe.
I also appreciate Cyprus’ readiness to support humanitarian initiatives for Ukrainian children affected by Russia’s war, including rehabilitation programmes and international efforts aimed at securing the return of deported Ukrainian children by Russia.
Invited my colleague to visit Kyiv soon. Our partnership continues to grow stronger, and together we can do even more for the security and future of Europe".
