Ukraine as a part of the international educational community

In 2005, Ukraine joined the Bologna Process which is a positive step towards integrating Ukrainian education into the European Higher Education Area.

Within implementation of the Bologna standards in Ukraine for the recognition of Ukrainian diplomas of higher education in Europe and for ensuring the students’ mobility the Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine in 2009 introduced European Credit Transfer System (ECTS) and its key documents, including the Diploma Attachment of the European standard in the universities of Ukraine.

This attachment is issued to all students who successfully graduate from higher educational institutions of all forms of ownership. The attachment is valid only together with the university Diploma and is made in 2 languages – Ukrainian and English. This document has a structure the same as developed by the European Commission, Council of Europe and UNESCO. It is needed for international recognition of student’s degree for further studying or working in Europe. Students’ rights to continue the next degree and descriptions of professional rights or professional status of the person who gained qualifications are written at the attachment.

 Foreigners enroll to HEIs on accredited educational programs:

1)    twice a year, before and at the beginning of the academic semester (until November 1 and until March 1 accordingly) for the degree programs – Junior Bachelor, Bachelor and Master;

2)     during the year for postgraduate studies, doctoral studies, clinical studies, medical residency, programs of the preparatory faculty (department), and the academic mobility programs.

What to study in Ukraine?

International students have the opportunity to study at more than 440 Higher Education Institutions (HEIs) in Ukraine and specialize in many different fields. The main languages of instruction in Ukrainian HEIs are Ukrainian, Russian and English.

Ukrainian HEIs provide such levels of higher education:

1. Initial level (Short cycle).
2. First (Bachelor) level.
3. Second (Master) level.
4. Third (Educational and Research/ Educational and Creative) level.
5. Research level.

A document certifying higher education (academic degree) is issued to a person who has successfully completed a relevant education (research) programme and passed attestation.

The following types of documents are established to certify higher education (research degree) in the relevant levels:

4. Doctor of Philosophy/Doctor of Arts Diploma

Ukrainian-Cypriot cooperation in the educational sphere

The cooperation in the field of education with the Republic of Cyprus is carried out on the basis of the Agreement between the Government of Ukraine and the Government of the Republic of Cyprus on cooperation in the field of higher education, dated December 11, 2015.

The important component of Ukrainian-Cypriot cooperation in this area is the cooperation between higher education institutions of two countries, which is developing and expanding successfully on the basis of the bilateral documents.

Within this partnership the exchange of students, academic staff, researchers and other staff is conducting, as well as the joint organization of training courses, seminars and symposia, exchange of information, documentation, publications and research results is being held on regular basis. For the present time, we have bilateral agreements on cooperation between 9 high educational institutions and potential for such cooperation is huge.

 

Tuition Fees in Ukraine

Ukrainian universities are offer affordable European education. The paying for training depends on the desired faculty, university and city of coaching. Prices for preparatory schools start at $1000/year, and up to $2000/y. Depends on university and language of training. For example, in English are more expensive than in Russian. Prices for economic specialties start at $1,500 per year and up to $2,500 per year, depending on the specialty and language of instruction. Medical specialties are considered the most expensive, from $3,000 for year and up to $4,500 per year, depending on the faculty and language of instruction (Russian, Ukrainian, English).

Computer specialties are offered from $1,400 per year to $2,400 per year. In addition to foreigners, many Ukrainian citizens study at these faculties. One of the popular specialties is aviation. Kiev and Kharkov attract many people who want to get higher education in aviation specialties. Prices start at $2,200 per year and up to $3,000 per year.

Ukrainian State Center for International Education

The main informational source about higher education in Ukraine for foreign students is Ukrainian State Center for International Education of the Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine.

Center is only one official state platform, which is engaged into preparation of foreign students for study in Ukraine. On official web-site http://studyinukraine.gov.ua entrants can get general information about studying programs, apply procedure and other practical advice.

Besides this, entrants can apply for studying online in any higher educational establishment in Ukraine via site http://studyinukraine.gov.ua.

Ukrainian State Center for International Education provides such services: processing the student’s documents, helping with choosing the university and studying program, presenting documents to the higher educational establishment, receiving the invitation, visa support, meeting in the airport.

Recent data released by the Ukrainian State Center for International Education has revealed that the country has seen a 13 percent growth in international student numbers in 2018, with 75,605 international students currently enrolled, the highest growth percentage to date.
