The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine condemns the adoption on 7 July by the House of Representatives of the Republic of Cyprus of a resolution aimed at lifting sanctions against Russia.
Although the resolution itself is not legally binding, the very fact of its adoption evokes concern. It demonstrates that individual Cypriot MPs ignore basic principles of interstate relations that are based on the international law. Such position is nothing but an indirect support of the actions of the aggressor.
It should be stressed that recent decision of the European Union to extend sanctions against the Russian Federation once again proved the unity of the European democratic community in condemning the Kremlin’s aggression.
We expect that the Government of the Republic of Cyprus, which supported the above mention decision of the European Union, will stay firm on the positions of the international law and respect for the European values, and will continue to support international efforts to stop Russian aggression against Ukraine.
