The parties exchanged views on the role of the United Nations and its peacekeeping forces in stabilization efforts and in ensuring compliance with the ceasefire regime, as well as on the current situation in the buffer zone.
Ambassador Dr. Sergii Nizhynskyi congratulated Mr. Diagne on the extension of the UN mission’s mandate until January 2027. Confidence was expressed that, once peace is achieved in Ukraine, Ukraine’s participation in UN peacekeeping and other stabilization efforts will be fully restored.
For his part, the Special Representative positively noted the contribution of Ukrainian peacekeepers and civilian personnel to UN field missions in Cyprus, African countries, etc.
Given the large number of Ukrainian citizens residing in Cyprus under temporary protection status, the parties discussed issues related to social support for 24,600 displaced persons in the Republic of Cyprus, as well as enhancing cooperation between the Embassy of Ukraine and UN humanitarian agencies operating on the island.
It was also agreed to strengthen cooperation between the Embassy and the offices of UN organizations and agencies in organizing thematic briefings for Ukrainian delegations visiting Cyprus.
