On March 16, 2026, the Embassy of the Federal Republic of Germany, together with Strategy International, hosted a strategic discussion on “The Aftermath of the 62nd Munich Security Conference: ‘Under Destruction.’” Ambassador Dr. Hans-Peter Jugel opened the event and outlined its purpose: to bring the debates and takeaways from Munich into direct conversation with regional realities.
The central presentation was delivered by Professor Dr. Marios Panagiotis Efthymiopoulos, Director and Founder of the Cypriot think tank Strategy International. After attending the full Munich Security Conference, held February 13–15, 2026, at the invitation of MSC Chairman Ambassador Wolfgang Ischinger, and conducting more than 60 high-level conversations, he provided a first-hand briefing on the main themes emerging from Munich. His presentation focused on Ukraine, the Middle East, transatlantic cooperation, European security, technology, and energy, with particular attention to implications for the Eastern Mediterranean and the wider Middle East.
Moderator Nicolas Zannettos guided the exchange and helped sustain a lively, intensive, and well-informed discussion. The German Embassy in Nicosia extends its special thanks to Professor Efthymiopoulos and Strategy International for the excellent cooperation.
